How to Measure for Curtains & Blinds

Measurements should be taken from the position of the track or pole – not the window - that’s why we always recommend installing your track or pole first.

A metal tape measure is best, as cloth or plastic tapes may stretch, resulting in incorrect readings. All measurements should be supplied in whole centimetres – if measurements fall between, always round down to the nearest centimetre.

And don’t forget, double check ALL your measurements afterwards.

Measuring for Tracks

If you are yet to pick and purchase your curtains, you have the freedom to fit the track according to the look you want. If your curtains and sizes are already determined, the position of your track will be guided by their width and drop.

  • Wall fixed tracks should be fitted 15cm above the window recess.

  • Ceiling fixed tracks should be fitted forward enough – 10cm as a guide - to avoid any sills and window handles, and you should be able to draw them without any drag.

  • Tracks should overlap your window width by around 15cm so your curtains can be drawn open away from it.

  • For wider windows, we suggest overlapping further as the opened curtain stack will be wider.

  • Tracks 240cm and above will be supplied into 2 parts with a fixed joining bridge. We advise 2 people fit larger tracks like these.
