How to Measure for Made-to-Measure Curtains

Why Measure from the Track or Pole?

The secret to beautifully draped curtains lies in precise measurements. That's why we always recommend installing your track or pole before you embark on measuring. When you measure from the track or pole, you're considering the exact space your curtains will occupy, ensuring they hang just right.

As we offer a bespoke service, we do require your measurements. With this information, we can expertly provide accurate curtain sizes, tailored to your unique space.

The Right Tools for the Job

To achieve accurate measurements, it's crucial to use the right tools. We recommend using a metal tape measure. Cloth or plastic tapes may stretch, leading to incorrect readings. Precision is key when creating made-to-measure curtains that will transform your home.

Measuring Width and Drop

The width and drop measurements play a vital role in ensuring your curtains fit flawlessly. 

• Width: If you have an existing pole, measure the length of the straight pole between the two end caps/finials. This measurement represents your finished curtain width. If you're starting from scratch, consider extending the pole 15cm on either side (excluding finials) past the window. Measure the window width and add 30cm to your finished curtain width. Of course, you can adjust this according to your preferences.
• Drop: For a new pole, install it 10-15cm above the window recess. When dealing with Pleated curtains, measure from the underside of the eye on the ring to your desired curtain finish point. Make allowances for longer curtains. For Eyelet curtains, measure from the top of the pole to where you want your curtains to finish. Again, make allowances for length.

Please note, for Eyelet headings, we add a 2cm upstand of fabric above the eyelet for that perfect finish.
